Glass Remove & Refit

Damage-free glass removal for bodywork repairs, resprays, and accident damage — then professional refitting once the work is done.

Trusted by Local Body Shops

When a vehicle needs bodywork repairs, a respray, or rust treatment around the glass aperture, the windscreen or other glass often needs to come out first. Incorrect removal can result in cracked glass, damaged paintwork, or a compromised refit. That is why body shops across Norfolk and Suffolk trust AWG Windscreens to handle the glass removal and refitting professionally.

Our ATA-accredited technicians use specialist fibre cutting tools to remove bonded glass cleanly and without damage. We store it safely while the body shop completes their work, then return to refit the glass with fresh bonding to manufacturer specifications.

When a remove & refit is needed:

  • Accident damage and panel replacement
  • Full vehicle resprays and colour changes
  • Rust treatment around glass apertures
  • Vehicle wrapping
  • Insurance-authorised bodywork repairs

How We Do It

Removing modern bonded glass requires specialist tools and training. Our technicians use fibre cutting technology to separate the glass from the bonding adhesive without scratching the paintwork or cracking the glass. The removed panel is stored safely and protected until the bodywork is finished.

When it's time to refit, we clean the aperture, apply fresh manufacturer-approved bonding adhesive, and reposition the glass precisely. If the vehicle has ADAS cameras or sensors, we carry out a full camera calibration to ensure all safety systems are functioning correctly after the refit.

Why body shops choose AWG:

  • ATA-accredited technicians
  • Damage-free removal using fibre cutting tools
  • Proper rebonding to manufacturer specifications
  • ADAS recalibration available after refit
  • Mobile service — we come to your workshop
  • Competitive trade rates for body shops

How Remove & Refit Works

We coordinate with the body shop to minimise downtime and keep the job moving.

1

Remove

Our technician arrives at the body shop, carefully removes the bonded glass using fibre cutting tools, and stores it safely. The vehicle is then ready for bodywork.

2

Bodywork

The body shop carries out the repair, respray, or rust treatment with full access to the aperture. No masking around glass, no overspray risk.

3

Refit & Calibrate

Once the bodywork is complete, we return to refit the glass with fresh bonding adhesive. If the vehicle has ADAS, we carry out camera calibration to ensure all safety systems are working correctly.

Remove & Refit FAQs

What is a windscreen remove and refit?
A remove and refit is the process of carefully removing a bonded windscreen or other vehicle glass so that bodywork can be carried out underneath — such as accident repairs, rust treatment, resprays, or panel replacement. Once the bodywork is complete, we refit the same glass with fresh bonding to manufacturer specifications.
Why can't the body shop remove the glass themselves?
Modern vehicle glass is bonded with specialist polyurethane adhesive. Removing it without the right tools and technique risks cracking the glass, damaging the paintwork, or weakening the structural bond. Our ATA-accredited technicians use fibre cutting tools designed specifically for damage-free glass removal.
How long does a remove and refit take?
Removal typically takes 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the glass type and vehicle. Refitting takes a similar time plus adhesive cure time. We coordinate with the body shop to fit around their schedule — removing before work starts and refitting once it is complete.
Will my glass be damaged during removal?
Our specialist fibre cutting technology is designed to remove bonded glass without damage. In the vast majority of cases, the same glass is reused. If the glass is already damaged or the removal reveals a defect, we will advise you before proceeding and can supply replacement glass if needed.
Do I need ADAS recalibration after a refit?
If your vehicle has a windscreen-mounted camera or sensor (for features like lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, or adaptive cruise control), then yes — ADAS recalibration is required after a windscreen refit. We offer a full camera calibration service and can carry this out as part of the job.
Can you come to the body shop?
Yes. We provide a mobile service to body shops, paint shops, and accident repair centres across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and surrounding areas. We are already trusted by local body shops across the region and can work around your schedule.
How much does a remove and refit cost?
The cost depends on the glass type, vehicle, and whether ADAS recalibration is needed afterwards. For body shops and trade customers, we offer competitive trade rates. Call us on 0800 318 711 for a quote.
Can the same glass be refitted or will I need new glass?
In most cases, the same glass is carefully removed, stored safely, and refitted once the bodywork is complete. We only recommend new glass if the existing piece is damaged or defective. We will always advise you before any additional costs are incurred.
