HGV & Truck Windscreen Repair & Replacement

Specialist heavy-goods glass service across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. On-site at your depot, yard, port gate or roadside.

Keeping HGVs on the Road

An HGV off the road is expensive. Every hour a tractor unit sits idle costs operators fuel, driver time, missed delivery windows, and potentially penalty clauses with shippers. AWG Windscreens provides a dedicated heavy-goods windscreen service across East Anglia designed to get commercial vehicles back to work as quickly as possible.

Our mobile technicians attend depots, haulage yards, ports, roadside breakdowns, and secure compounds across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Peterborough, and the surrounding area. We work with all major HGV makes and hold a wide stock of common glass on-site at our Lenwade branch.

HGV makes we cover:

  • DAF — XF, CF, LF (all generations)
  • Scania — R, S, G and P series
  • Volvo — FH, FM, FE, FL
  • Mercedes-Benz — Actros, Arocs, Atego
  • MAN — TGX, TGS, TGM, TGL
  • Iveco — Stralis, Eurocargo, S-Way, Daily
  • Renault Trucks — T, K, C, D series
  • Also Isuzu, Hino, older Leyland DAF

Port & logistics specialism

We provide priority cover for operators running in and out of the Port of Felixstowe — the busiest container port in the UK. HGV breakdowns at or near the port can cost thousands in missed slot bookings; we prioritise port-gate and Felixstowe-corridor call-outs to keep container trucks moving. See our Felixstowe coverage.

HGV Glass — What You Need to Know

Laminated, Heated, Acoustic

Modern HGV windscreens are rarely a single flat pane of glass. Common specifications include:

  • Laminated safety glass — the standard for all HGV windscreens
  • Heated elements — embedded fine wires for demisting, common on Scania, Volvo and Mercedes
  • Acoustic interlayer — extra PVB layer for cab noise reduction on long-haul tractor units
  • Sensor mountings — rain/light sensors and, on newer trucks, ADAS cameras
  • Tinted bands — upper sun bands as standard on most tractor units

We stock OE-quality glass in all these specifications. For unusual or older trucks we can typically source specialist glass within 24-48 hours.

MOT and Operator Compliance

An HGV with a cracked or damaged windscreen in the driver's swept area will fail its annual test (MOT equivalent). Operators are also subject to DVSA roadside checks, where damaged glass can trigger a prohibition notice — taking the vehicle off the road until rectified.

We understand operator licence obligations and can turn around HGV replacements quickly to avoid a prohibition or failed test. Chip repair is usually acceptable under DVSA guidance provided the repaired chip falls within size and location limits — we will advise at the job.

If your vehicle is camera-fitted (many post-2019 tractor units have forward-facing cameras for lane-departure and emergency braking), we can carry out ADAS calibration as part of the job.

HGV Windscreen FAQs

Do you replace HGV windscreens on site?
Yes. We carry out HGV windscreen repair and replacement on site — at your depot, yard, port gate or roadside across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and the Peterborough area. Our mobile vans carry adhesives and tools suited to heavy-goods fitting, and we can attend 24 hours a day.
Which HGV makes do you work on?
We replace glass on all major HGV, lorry and tractor-unit makes including DAF (XF, CF, LF), Scania (R, S, G, P series), Volvo (FH, FM, FE, FL), Mercedes-Benz (Actros, Arocs, Atego), MAN (TGX, TGS, TGM), Iveco (Stralis, Eurocargo, S-Way), Renault (T, K, C, D), Isuzu, Hino, and older Leyland DAF units.
How long does an HGV windscreen replacement take?
A typical HGV windscreen replacement takes 2 to 3 hours including adhesive cure time, which is longer than a car fit because HGV glass is larger, thicker and often incorporates heating elements, acoustic layers or sensor mountings. We will confirm the exact safe-drive-away time at the end of the job — HGV adhesives typically cure sufficiently in 1–2 hours depending on temperature.
Do you work with haulage and logistics fleet accounts?
Yes. We work with haulage operators, logistics companies, port transport fleets, agricultural hauliers, and local-authority fleets across East Anglia. Fleet accounts include priority booking, consolidated monthly invoicing, trade rates, and 24/7 emergency cover.
Can you handle tachograph and driver hours issues during a breakdown replacement?
Yes. We understand that HGV breakdowns often happen mid-journey and that drivers are working under driver-hours and tachograph rules. We prioritise roadside and port-gate emergency call-outs, and our technicians carry the documentation needed for a breakdown record if required.
Do you repair HGV stone chips as well as full replacements?
Yes. HGV windscreen chip repair is the same resin-injection process as for cars, and in many cases saves a full replacement. We recommend prompt repair because HGV windscreens experience more flex and vibration than cars, which accelerates crack spread. Most commercial insurance policies cover chip repair at no excess.
How much does an HGV windscreen replacement cost?
HGV windscreen pricing varies significantly by make, model and glass specification — a straightforward flat-fit on an older tractor unit is considerably cheaper than a tinted heated unit with camera mounts on a modern Volvo FH or Scania S-series. For fleet customers we offer trade rates. Call 0800 318 711 with your vehicle details for a quote.
