Electric Vehicle Windscreens

Specialist windscreen replacement and ADAS calibration for electric vehicles across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

EV Glass, Done Properly

Electric vehicles are rapidly becoming the largest segment of new car registrations in the UK. Modern EVs share the same laminated safety glass as their petrol and diesel counterparts, but almost all are heavily dependent on windscreen-mounted cameras for autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise, traffic sign recognition, and in some cases partial self-driving capability.

After a windscreen replacement on an EV, ADAS recalibration is essential. Without it, safety features cannot be relied upon and, in some vehicles, the dashboard will flag warnings until calibration is completed. AWG Windscreens covers the full EV glass and calibration process under one roof.

EV makes we cover:

  • Tesla — Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X
  • Polestar — 2, 3, 4
  • BMW i range — i4, iX, iX1, iX3
  • VW ID range — ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, ID.Buzz
  • MG — MG4 EV, ZS EV, MG5
  • BYD — Seal, Atto 3, Dolphin
  • Hyundai & Kia — Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, EV6, Niro EV
  • Volvo, Audi, Mercedes — EX30/EX40, e-tron, EQ range

Why EVs Need Specialist Attention

High-voltage safety protocols

EVs carry 400V or 800V DC electrical systems. Our technicians follow manufacturer guidelines when working near HV components and, where required, are IMI AOM230 / Level 3/4 qualified — the same accreditation required to work on hybrid and electric vehicles in dealerships.

Camera-heavy ADAS

EVs tend to have more advanced ADAS than equivalent combustion vehicles — particularly Tesla, which relies almost entirely on vision. A replacement without correct calibration will leave Autopilot, lane-keep, and adaptive cruise inoperative or inaccurate.

Acoustic glass

Without engine noise, wind and road sounds become more noticeable. Manufacturers respond with acoustic laminated glass — a PVB interlayer that dampens cabin noise. We source matching OE-quality acoustic glass; fitting standard glass to an acoustic-specified EV will make the cabin significantly noisier.

Head-up display compatibility

HUD-equipped EVs (common on BMW i, Polestar, Mercedes EQ) require HUD-compatible glass with a wedge PVB layer. We source OE or OE-equivalent HUD glass to preserve the projection clarity.

Tesla Windscreen Replacement Notes

Model 3 & Y

The most common Tesla models on UK roads. Both use acoustic laminated glass with forward-facing camera mounting for Autopilot. After replacement, Tesla vehicles perform a camera calibration drive — typically 20-30 miles of varied driving at moderate speeds, during which the vehicle learns the camera's new alignment.

We can handle the calibration drive on your behalf or guide you through it. For Full Self-Driving vehicles, additional calibration may be required.

Model S & X

Refreshed Model S and X vehicles include more complex glass with integrated sensor arrays. We can source OE-specification glass for both and carry out the fit at your home, driveway, or our Lenwade branch. Specialist glass for some Model X variants may require 24-48 hours to source.

All Tesla work is subject to the same warranty as any other job — lifetime workmanship guarantee on the fit.

EV Windscreen FAQs

Can you replace the windscreen on my electric vehicle?
Yes. We replace windscreens on all mainstream EVs including Tesla Model 3, Y, S and X, Polestar 2 and 4, BMW i4, iX and iX1, VW ID.3 ID.4 and ID.Buzz, MG 4 and ZS EV, BYD Seal and Atto 3, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6, Kia EV6 and Niro EV, Nissan Leaf, Volvo EX30 and EX40, Audi e-tron, and Mercedes EQ range. Electric vehicles use the same OE-quality laminated glass as equivalent petrol or diesel vehicles — the difference is in the ADAS and in handling high-voltage safety protocols during the fit.
Is EV windscreen replacement different to a petrol or diesel vehicle?
The glass itself is similar to equivalent conventional vehicles, but EVs typically have more advanced ADAS (autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise) and almost always require recalibration after a windscreen fit. Teslas in particular are heavily camera-dependent. EVs also have high-voltage electrical systems near the cabin; our technicians follow manufacturer guidelines for working around HV components and, where required, use IMI Level 3/4 qualified protocols.
Can you recalibrate Tesla Autopilot cameras after a windscreen replacement?
Tesla vehicles use forward-facing cameras mounted on the windscreen that are integral to Autopilot and Full Self-Driving features. After a windscreen replacement, these cameras must be recalibrated. On most Tesla vehicles a calibration drive is performed (the vehicle learns the new camera alignment while driving) — we can guide you through this process. For complex cases we partner with specialist calibration providers.
Do EVs have acoustic glass as standard?
Many EVs include acoustic laminated glass as standard because the absence of engine noise makes wind and road noise more noticeable. Tesla, Polestar, BMW i, Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQ models commonly fit acoustic windscreens. We source OE-quality acoustic glass to match the original specification — fitting standard glass to an acoustic-specified vehicle will make the cabin noticeably noisier.
Is EV windscreen replacement covered by insurance?
Yes. EV windscreen cover works the same as conventional vehicles. Excess typically ranges from £75 to £115. ADAS recalibration is usually included in the claim. Some insurers require calibration at a main dealer for very recent or high-value EVs — we will advise at booking.
How much does an EV windscreen cost?
EV windscreens are often more expensive than equivalent petrol/diesel vehicles because of acoustic layers, heating elements, head-up display compatibility, and sensor mountings. A Tesla Model Y or BMW iX windscreen is significantly more costly than a basic car screen. ADAS recalibration adds to the cost. Most customers claim on insurance. Can you repair chips on an EV windscreen?
Yes. Chip repair works the same on EVs as on conventional vehicles, provided the chip is within size and location limits. Repair is significantly cheaper than replacement and typically free on insurance. Given the cost of EV replacement windscreens, prompt chip repair is particularly worthwhile on electric vehicles.
